PHEW it is warm outside and we are here today with debut author Jennifer Honeybourn to discuss her cute and swoony debut, Wesley James Ruined My Life! Come learn a little more about Jennifer and enter to win your own copy at the end!

Wesley James is your debut – congrats! Tell us about the day you learned you were getting published?
Thank you! I got the call that Swoon Reads wanted to publish Wesley James Ruined My Life about three months after I submitted my book to on their site (Swoon Reads uses a crowd sourcing model to help select the books they’re going to publish). It was during spring break and I was at home, which was probably a good thing because there was a lot of jumping up and down and screaming (and maybe some tears) when I found out they’d chosen my book for their next list.
Oh my gosh, you have the CUTEST cover! What does the cover tell us about the story within?
I am so happy with the cover! I think the expression on Quinn’s face perfectly captures her frustration with the situation she’s found herself in with Wesley. The food truck scenes are some of my favorite in the book, so I’m glad that made it onto the cover. And I love the colors — I think that it matches the light, fun tone of the book really well.
Quinn and Wesley go from friends to enemies to lovers. What elements of your friendships/relationships crept into their story?
I can’t say that any of my relationships have made their way into this particular book, but I can say that I’ve watched a lot of TV and read a lot of books over the years and I’m always up for watching/reading about relationships that start out prickly and yet the couple somehow manage to work through it and end up together.
Since forgiveness is a theme within the book, what are some of your tips for learning to forgive and forget?
This is a lesson I’ve learned with age (and am still learning). There’s an often used saying, “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die” and I think that’s true. Anger and resentment aren’t productive, so I try my best to let go of those emotions as quickly as I can (which, I admit, is not always easy). Putting the situation in perspective often helps me — like in the grand scheme of my life, is this worth getting upset about? And I’m a big fan of meditation.
What movies or TV shows would you recommend for fans of your book?
Well, if you’re in the mood for a good enemies to lovers story, then I’d recommend the ‘90s classic 10 Things I Hate About You. The ‘90s also gave us Clueless, which I recently re-watched and it remains amazing. And because I love a good animated movie, I’d have to say Frozen. Anna and Kristoff 4eva!
