EMMA CHASE
Tales of the The Ravenous Reader Interviews Emma Chase
1. I find this series to be so sweetly romantic with the perfect blend of comedy, heart and OMG! Royally hot men. I and plenty of readers would love to know where did you get the inspiration for the Royally series?
Long answer:
I’ve always been a huge historical romance reader, and while I’ve toyed with the idea of writing an historical romantic comedy, I was intimidated by the research that would be needed to set a romance in another time-period. I admire historical romance authors so much, because it’s very important to get all those details right, and to weave them seamlessly into the story. One day, while brainstorming with my agent, the idea of writing a contemporary royal romance came up. I was immediately excited, because it seemed like such a great way to combine my love for historical romance with my writing style that really is best suited for contemporary romances.
I also LOVED all the themes and layers a story like that would have: Who are these modern-day royals? What is their life like? How does it feel to be a modern, twenty-something person, who is very much bound by traditions and expectations and rules that are literally hundreds of years old? How does that affect your thoughts, feelings and romantic relationships?
There was just so much, as a writer, to explore! All those elements came to be a part of the stories in the Royally Series, and while the characters weren’t inspired specifically by any real royals, I did research the families of Britain, Sweden, Monaco and the governments of Jordan, the UK, and Monaco, to make the characters and situations as realistic and relatable as possible.
Short answer: Max Irons, Alex Pettyfer, and Tom Hardy were big visual inspirations for the men of the Royally Series 😉
2. How did you determine where the royal family would be based and who would be your characters?
In contemporary romance we don’t often get to do a lot of world building, so I was excited by the idea of creating a new country, with its own traditions and history. I think British and Scottish accents are beautiful and sexy, and I was already a bit familiar with English and Scottish history, so it made perfect sense to connect Wessco to those countries.
As for the characters, as soon as the idea for a contemporary royal romance came to me, I had all three books basically outlined in the same day. The concept of “an heir and a spare” is pretty familiar to readers – but also very intriguing. In addition to the romance, I was excited to explore how fame and the burdens of different royal roles and expectations would affect the family and brotherly relationships. Also, security is an integral and consistent part of a royal’s life. It seemed natural that a romantic relationship could develop between a bodyguard and a royal family member. The development of all three stories from these basic ideas was wonderfully organic – it all just felt really right.
3. Nicolas, Henry and Logan are all amazing and any girl would be lucky to be with any of them. Which one is your favorite and why?
(my favorite is Henry……sigh)
Each of them is my favorite – but for different reasons.
– I love the complexity of Nicholas’s character. He’s charming and so funny but he also has this massive sense of responsibility for everyone around him, and a very confident, take-charge attitude which is so totally sexy!
– I love Henry because he’s sweet and wild just a little bit broken inside. There’s a genuineness to him in how he cares so much – even when acts spoiled or immature. The fact that he begins to believe in himself because Sarah believes in him, and that his love then helps her with her own fears and struggles is so beautiful and romantic to me.
– I love Logan because he’s such a good man – upstanding and strong and honorable. He always puts Ellie’s needs, both emotionally and physically, before anything else. Often in romance, we define an “alpha” by his possessiveness of the heroine, and Logan is possessive to a point, but he never lets that interfere with what Ellie needs and his desire for her to have a fulfilling, happy life.
4. I am so excited that Passionflix has picked up this series for their line up. How excited are you about this? and what input do you have? (I became a founding member because of this)
OMG!!! I can’t even describe how excited I am – it truly is a wonderful dream come true! When I first heard about the concept of Passionflix – a streaming service that would focus specifically on turning romance novels into films and series – I was immediately a big fan. Having gotten to know the ladies behind Passionflix and seeing their work in Hollywood Dirt, I became even MORE excited!! They’re passionate about these projects, dedicated to quality and to bringing these stories to life in a beautiful, emotional, fun and true way. It’s going to be amazing both for me and for all the readers who have fallen in love with the Royally Series!!
5. What is your favorite quote from your Royally series?
I can’t pick just one – impossible! Here are a few of my faves from each book:
Royally Screwed:
– “I don’t like it here, Nicholas.”
“I know. I never should’ve brought you here—it’s the most selfish thing I’ve ever done. But…I can’t be sorry for it. Because you have come to mean everything to me.”
– “If you could do anything right now, what would you do?”
“I would kiss you.”
– “The day will come when you will be a husband and father. You will be a King! And what will Olivia be then?”
“Mine. She’ll be mine.”
Royally Matched:
– “It will be dangerous.”
“But you make me want to be brave.”
– “My story hasn’t been written yet, but I know it begins with you.”
– “You are woven into my soul and you are wrapped around my heart. And if anything happens to you, both will wither and die and I won’t even care.”
Royally Endowed:
– This bodyguard may have a service revolver in his pocket, but he’s got a magnum in his pants.
– “He means—just how long have you been sticking it to the girl who’s like a little sister to us?”
“That’s a fairly recent development. But I have loved her for a long, long time.”
– I don’t know if I’ll be any good at love. I’m not quite sure how it’s done. But for her, I’ll learn.
6. You have four books in the Royally series, do you plan on having anymore?
I’m very attached to these characters and I would love to write more stories set in this world. Stay tuned…
7. What are you working on right now and what can you tell us about it?
Right now, I’m working on something brand new that I absolutely CANNOT wait to share with my readers!! It will be published in 2018 and will be released as an Audible Original – exclusively in audiobook first, with the ebook and print version to follow four months later. I think this story has all the elements readers and listeners love most about my writing – cocky guys, strong women, hilarious kids, sharp banter, real-world advice, emotion, fun and fantastic sexy times! More details to come!
ROYALLY SCREWED
Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.
Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.
Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.
Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.
There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.
But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it.
Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.
My Thoughts:I become hooked on this series right from the very start. Emma Chase has a way of combining romance infused with bits of comedy and heart that had me completely engrossed. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this series but I will say that they are my favorite reads and I am besotted with them. Nicholas and Olivia had this slow burning romance that quickly escalated into the fired that singed the pages and left me wanting more.

ROYALLY MATCHED
Some men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry John Edgar Thomas Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.
He’s not handling it well.
Hoping to help her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora agrees to give him “space”—but while the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:
Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.
A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.
While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.
The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit… and her naughty sense of humor.
But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.
As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.
My Thoughts:Sweet Jesus do I Love Henry. He was the screw up in Royally Screwed and now as the heir to the royal throne. His fight to stay away from the thrown is hilarious until he meets his match with Sarah Titebottum. Lol. Their romance is what girls dream of, a prince that will sweep them of their feet with a great deal of flare and holy hotness. This story is not to be missed.
ROYALLY RAISED
“He’s a joy to us. They all are. When they’re not busy giving us migraines.” ~King Henry
No one ever said raising children was easy…but raising a future monarch? That’s another story all-together. Get a glimpse into the happily ever after of Wessco’s irresistible royals in Royally Raised – a sweet, sexy, heartwarming short story set twenty years after Royally Matched.
My Thoughts:I adored getting to see the Royal family in the future with their brood of children especially care free Henry and his take-no-holds-bared daughter. She is something to fear and I would love to see how love softens her rougher edges. There is a story brewing there. I just know it.
ROYALLY ENDOWED
Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??
Sexy. As. Hell.
And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.
For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, gorgeous royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.
To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.
The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.
But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.
***
Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.
Any woman would be proud to call him hers.
But there’s only one woman he wants.
For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.
He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.
But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.
Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.
My Thoughts:This book by far is my favorite and if you would have asked me before I would have seriously said Royally Matched but once I began Royally Endowed everything else melted away. Having to relive Logan and Ellie’s romance from the start was breathtaking. I could not have been any happier and truly loved how the book started out. Their love was a series slow burn, we are talking years here….YEARS!!! And then to have it all play out in vivid detail is so swoon worthy I could not think of anything else for days. All I can saw is MORE please with a healthy helping of crown.
