Oh beautiful darkness!! I have not enjoyed an audiobook as much as this one in a long while. THE DARK DESCENT OF ELIZABETH FRANKENSTEIN is so beautifully executed and I long for more adventures in this genre.
Kiersten White has done a fantastic job of creating an atmosphere that is tangibly creepy as Elizabeth Lavenza recalls her life and all that she was willing to do to stay within the good graces of the Frankenstein family. Her price at keeping her station were high, keeping Victor Frankenstein in check because he did not function well in normal society, yet she never faltered on her mission, even when another came to join their small group.
The story deftly goes from the past to present as Elizabeth travels to find Victor and bring him home after a long stay away, but she may have bitten off more than she can chew as she begins to discover that Victor’s absence means something more sinister that she can possible imagine.
When ensues is the stuff that gothic nightmares are made of: secrets, lies, dead bodies all set against a backdrop of darkness disguised as beauty. This story is wicked in it’s concept and it will keep you glue to your headphones until the very end.
THE DARK DESCENT OF ELIZABETH FRANKENSTEIN is mesmerizing and I will be the first to admit that I squee’d in delight when I discovered that this book was being written but it is nothing compared to listening to it on audio.
Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver,” and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything–except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable–and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.
