Once I opened this book and began reading it I could not do anything else, chores were ignored, food was non-existent and sleep was not an option. I needed to know the truth, but I realized that some truths should remain hidden. Chilling and wicked, DEAD GIRLS SOCIETY by Michelle Krys is an entertaining read that kept me wholly engaged from the start and refused to let me go until it’s nail biting finale.

It all began with a letter.

You are cordially invited to participate…

Then a dare.

In a game of thrills and dares…

That brings a most unconventional group of girls together.

The Rich Girl, the Smart Girl, the Bad Girl , the Sporty girl,  and the Sick girl

In the name of The Society.

This story’s main character is the Sick Girl, Hope Callahan. She has cystic fibrosis and spends most of her time shut in at home, avoiding the outside world for her numbered days. Until she receives a letter that dares her to leave the safety of her home and she cannot resist a taste of adventure. What she encounters are four other girls that have received the same message. Nothing in common but the game. Each are blackmailed into showing up but none want to leave once the prize is revealed. For Hope, this immense monetary prize would help her family greatly but at what price? This is when the serious nail biting begins…

I liked Hope from the start and admired how she didn’t want her illness to dictate how she would live her life. Her views on the challenge were realistic and I loved how she methodically went about trying to discover the mystery of The Society.  I also enjoyed the dynamic between Hope and all the girls, each rounding out the story line and giving more characteristics to relate to.

I was pleased at how swift the story picks up and how I was carried away into it’s mystery and adventure. I could not seem to keep reading the story fast enough wanting to forge my way through until the very end. And that ending…..I still get chills. So, if you are in need of a darker read that will keep you guessing then this is the book for you.

Description:

You are cordially invited to participate in a game of thrills and dares. Tell no one, and come alone. If you dare.

Hope is sick of everyone treating her like she’s breakable. Sure, she has cystic fibrosis (basically really bad lungs), but she’s tired of being babied by her mom and her overprotective best friend, Ethan, not to mention worrying about paying for her expensive medication and how she’s going to afford college. And she’s bored with life in her run-down New Orleans suburb.

When an invitation arrives from a mysterious group that calls itself the Society, Hope jumps at the chance for some excitement. This could be her ticket out. All she has to do is complete a few dares and she might win some real money.
But the Society isn’t all it seems . . . and soon Hope finds that playing the game isn’t a choice—it’s a requirement.

“Absorbing . . . This swiftly paced blend of mystery and psychological suspense uses vividly sketched characters with complex backstories to argue against stereotyping and in favor of tolerance and empathy. Creepy set pieces add tension and texture, and the burgeoning relationship between Hope and her best friend Ethan provides a dose of romance.” –Publishers Weekly
