A Wholly Unique Fantasy Tale – You Need It! ~ Tales of the Ravenous Reader

Because if you liked then you should have blurbed it…and I did!

Welcome to a world where the dead won’t stay dead and the thought of change makes everyone cringe. Where the undead rule with a delicate balance of majesty and monster. Where Odessa is tasked with keeping this balance in order to keep the peace in the kingdom.

That is, until someone no longer desires this peace and stability. After many years of stagnation and stable rule, someone is ready for a little unrest and isn’t afraid to risk everything to make change possible.

As a fan of paranormal stories, I enjoyed this book. The imagery of the Deadlands was so vivid I felt I was walking alongside Odessa, fighting alongside Odessa as she took down Shades. The emotion was so raw I felt every loss in this book – and there was no shortage of bodies here.

Get ready to fist pump over the fact that there is good rep of f/f and m/m relationships. The representation felt natural and unforced. It’s prominent without feeling like it’s proving a point – the point is this is a natural and normal part of the world. As it should be.

I loved this book so much that and was thrilled to have the chance to blurb the ARC!

Odessa is one of Karthia’s master necromancers, catering to the kingdom’s ruling Dead. Whenever a noble dies, it’s Odessa’s job to raise them by retrieving their souls from a dreamy and dangerous shadow world called the Deadlands. But there is a cost to being raised–the Dead must remain shrouded, or risk transforming into zombie-like monsters known as Shades. If even a hint of flesh is exposed, the grotesque transformation will begin.

A dramatic uptick in Shade attacks raises suspicions and fears among Odessa’s necromancer community. Soon a crushing loss of one of their own reveals a disturbing conspiracy: someone is intentionally creating Shades by tearing shrouds from the Dead–and training them to attack. Odessa is faced with a terrifying question: What if her necromancer’s magic is the weapon that brings Karthia to its knees?
